Confronting Hinduphobia: HFC Stands Against Discrimination in Mississauga’s Mayoral Race

In a recent tweet, Mississauga mayoral candidate Carolyn Parrish sparked controversy with a comment that targeted the Hindu community, raising concerns of Hinduphobia. The Hindu Forum Canada (HFC), dedicated to combating such discrimination, swiftly responded, highlighting the issue and demanding accountability.

Parrish’s tweet criticized the use of a Hindu temple as a vaccination site, implying that Malton residents would not attend due to religious reasons. HFC President penned a letter expressing dismay at the divisive rhetoric and misinformation, emphasizing the temple’s vital role in community health efforts.

Furthermore, HFC’s director, Rahul Yendamuri, engaged with
Parrish directly to address her past discriminatory remarks. Despite Parrish’s
assertion of misinterpretation, HFC remains vigilant in advocating against
Hinduphobia.

Our director RahulYendamuri met ⁦@carolynhparrish⁩ last week and shared our concerns regarding her past Hinduphobic&discriminatory statements. She said that her statements were misinterpreted. We hope that all mayoral candidates in Mississauga would never discriminate Hindus pic.twitter.com/8T2gopyq2R
