In a significant milestone for the Hindu community in Canada, Hindu Forum Canada (HFC) has successfully advocated for the official recognition of a Day of Remembrance for the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus. This achievement is a result of our dedicated efforts in educating and engaging with Members of Parliament (MPs) across the country, ensuring that the tragic history of Kashmiri Hindus is acknowledged and remembered.
Advocacy Through Education
The journey to secure this recognition began with our comprehensive outreach to several MPs. We sent detailed letters, rich with historical context and factual information, to educate them about the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus, the events leading up to it, and the ongoing challenges faced by the community. Our efforts focused on busting myths and correcting the widespread misinformation that has clouded this dark chapter of history.
Official Statements of Support
We are proud to announce that our outreach resulted in official statements from MP Bob Saroya and MP Warren Steinley, who both acknowledged the tragic events and expressed their support for the Day of Remembrance. These statements are a testament to the impact of our educational efforts and the importance of preserving the truth about the Kashmiri Hindu genocide.
In addition to these successes, we have reached out to other MPs, including MP Michelle Rempel of Calgary, Alberta, and Dipika Dalmera, requesting similar official statements. Our aim is to garner widespread recognition and support across all levels of government, ensuring that the voices of the Kashmiri Hindu community are heard and respected.
Continuing the Fight Against Misinformation
HFC remains committed to educating Canadians about Hindu history, culture, and the struggles that have often been buried under layers of misinformation. We will continue our advocacy, not only to secure further recognition for the Kashmiri Hindu genocide but also to promote a broader understanding of the Hindu community’s contributions and challenges in Canada.
Our work is far from over, and we invite all members of the community and our allies to join us in this important mission. Together, we can ensure that the truth prevails and that the memory of those who suffered is honored with the dignity and respect they deserve.
