Today, the Bangladeshi-Canadian community in Canada and around the world celebrate the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh’s independence.
Bangladesh – ‘Golden Bengal’ (Sonar Bangla) – is a country of unique natural beauty and a modern nation that strives to join unity of language and culture with respect for the different traditions and communities within it.
On this important milestone, Hindu Forum Canada would like to commend Bangladesh’s remarkable economic and social transformation since its independence. The friendship between our two communities is also rooted in strong people-to-people ties.
We look forward to building and advancing our shared values and mutual respect for cultural and linguistic diversity with the Bangladeshi community in Canada. It should therefore come as no surprise that the national anthem of India and Bangladesh was written by the same person, Nobel laureate Gurudev Rabindranath Thakur. India played a pivotal role in helping the Mukhti Bahini or freedom fighters gain independence from genocide and subversion of democracy in 1971.
On behalf of Hindu Forum Canada, I offer my best wishes to all who are celebrating the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence.
